Marine Littoral Regiment vs. the PLAN
During the opening weeks of a war with China, the US is occupied with trying to hold on to Guam and Okinawa. China is using this opportunity to send an amphibious assault carrier loaded with DF21 missiles to a PLAN base in the Solomon Islands. If China can scatter these carrier killer missiles across the islands of its South Pacific ally, the PLAN can cut off Australia's access to the Pacific. The US cannot let this happen, but is desperately short of warships and aircraft. Fortunately, the US does have a Marine Littoral Regiment. Using stealthy amphibious ships, this unit can land a combat force on islands deep behind enemy lines. The plan here is to insert a group of marines somewhere in Papua New Guinea, setup anti-ship missile launchers, and wait in ambush for the PLAN convoy. The marines can also setup surface to air missiles, and a landing strip for F35Bs. The trick is to find the right place to hide. The British have sent along a few F35Bs and an Astute class submarine to help locate the Chinese task force…but to avoid a war, these assets cannot attack the Chinese. The Air Force also has some slow, not terribly stealthy MQ-9 Reapers that could be helpful. Find the enemy fleet. Stay hidden. Good luck!
